Using emoji in marketing

Emoji are no longer just for casual texts. They are proven attention-grabbers in email subject lines, social media posts, ad copy, and even Google search results. Studies consistently show that subject lines with emoji have higher open rates, and social posts with emoji receive more engagement. The challenge is choosing the right ones and knowing where they render correctly.

Emoji in email subject lines

A well-placed emoji at the start of a subject line helps your email stand out in a crowded inbox. Use CTA emoji like the rocket or fire to signal urgency, or seasonal emoji to tie into campaigns. Keep it to one or two per subject — overuse can trigger spam filters and erode trust. Test rendering across Gmail, Outlook, and Apple Mail, as each client may display emoji slightly differently.

Emoji in Google SERP titles

Google renders many emoji in title tags, making your listing visually distinct in search results. However, not all emoji are supported. Very new emoji (Unicode 15+), keycap sequences, and complex ZWJ (zero-width joiner) sequences may be stripped or displayed as blank boxes. The green and red indicators in this library show which emoji are verified to render in Google titles.

Green dot — verified to render in Google SERP titles (July 2026)
Red dot — may not render (ZWJ sequence, very new, or known issues)

Best practices by channel

Where and how to use marketing emoji effectively:

Email subjects — 1-2 emoji, front-loaded, test across clients
Social posts — use as visual breaks and CTA markers; match brand tone
Google titles — stick to verified emoji; one per title; place at start or end
Push notifications — high-impact since screen space is limited
Ad copy — platform-dependent; Meta allows them, Google Ads does not in headlines

How this library is organized

Every emoji in this library is categorized by marketing use case, not by Unicode block. The seven categories — CTA, Urgency, Finance, E-commerce, Seasonal, Social proof, and Achievement — map to common campaign types so you can quickly find the right emoji for your context. Use the search bar to filter by name or keyword, and the category buttons to browse by use case.
